Roadmap 2026: What's Coming Next for Modbus Connect
A look at the milestones ahead — from register write control and interactive dashboards to automation flows, protocol expansion, and more.

The Road Ahead
Modbus Connect has grown quickly since its first release — from basic register reading to real-time charting, data logging, device scanning, and more. But we're just getting started.
This roadmap outlines the major milestones planned for 2026. The objective is clear: release Modbus Connect as a fully-featured, professional-grade Modbus TCP/IP client. Each milestone builds on the last, moving from core control features all the way through to platform expansion and usability polish.
Milestone 1 — Read & Write Control
The first milestone focuses on giving you full control over your Modbus devices. Right now Modbus Connect is read-only — this milestone changes that.
Write registers and coils directly from the app using an innovative UI with inline editing
Confirmation dialogs and cell highlighting as safety controls to prevent accidental writes
Value-to-text mapping — display "Running" instead of raw 1
Milestone 2 — Interactive Dashboard & Automations
Move beyond tables and charts. Milestone 2 introduces a drag-and-drop dashboard for building custom testing and monitoring environments.
Drag-and-drop grid layout for creating custom testing environments
Live value cards, gauges, and status indicators for real-time monitoring at a glance
Automate actions — generate alarms, event logging, and more
Milestone 3 — Protocol & Platform Expansion
Extend beyond Modbus TCP/IP. Milestone 3 brings support for serial protocols and improved cross-platform compatibility.
Modbus RTU and ASCII support over RS-232/RS-485 serial connections
Serial port configuration UI for baud rate, parity, and stop bits
Improved Linux & macOS support for a consistent experience across platforms
Milestone 4 — Workspace & Usability
The final milestone before release focuses on polish, usability, and squashing all remaining bugs.
Print and preview for tables, charts, and dashboards
Built-in help system with contextual guidance throughout the app
More keyboard shortcuts for power users
Beyond the Roadmap
Beyond these milestones, there are plenty of ideas on the horizon — multi-language support, a REST/WebSocket API for external integrations, cloud-connected dashboards, a plugin system, and more.
This roadmap is a living document. Priorities may shift based on what users need most, and that's by design.
Have a Suggestion?
I'm always open for suggestions and go above and beyond to listen and implement what users need. If there's a feature you'd love to see, don't hesitate to reach out.
